Star wars VFX Project

Within my first year at my VFX HND course. I was tasked with creating a environment and character design where I did the modelling, texturing, rigging and animating. To be composited into a shot from Star Wars IV: A New Hope.

Within my first year at my VFX HND course. I was tasked with creating a environment and character design where I did the modelling, texturing, rigging and animating. To be composited into a shot from Star Wars IV: A New Hope.

I began with creating a low poly version of the robot and then bringing it into Zbrush for high detailed sculpting. As well as a corridor based of the footage environment. Furthermore, I went into Maya and modeled a previs of the iconic hallway to implement my character into for previs, using reference images and brought that into Unreal Engine 5.

After this I brought my model with UVS into Adobe Substance Painter and texturing it with the star wars colour pallet in mind.

Then I brought my textured model back into Maya to animate using the corridor I had modeled, creating a previs. Then I was able to go into Nuke and create a 3D track of the footage. Using the hallway that I created I was able to I could match the lighting, shadows and reflections to further place my character into the setting of the shot.

The rendered version of the animated character was imported into NukeX for compositing into the scene. This involved tasks such as camera tracking, creating cleanplates, rotoscoping, adjusting colors, and applying film grain to match the original shot.
